❤️💣 Mission: Try Something New

Try Something New

The Background

I spent this past weekend experimenting with new AI tools, both for fun and for work (well, mostly for fun, with just a tiny bit of work). It's been a long time since I shut down all the noise and distraction, put on some headphones, and just went into Creator Mode for a few hours. If you're interested in what I built, I wrote up a brief summary here.

OKAY, since you're begging me, I'll give you a hint! It was a steampunk town that was the center for all knowledge, and therefore had books absolutely everywhere, including built into the design of buildings, homes, furniture, etc. I generated dozens of example images in pixel art format. Here's a typical kitchen in someone's home. If you don't want to visit this place, just go ahead and unsubscribe right now, k? ;)

The Mission

This week, take 10 minutes to give back to others in your world in a new way - something you haven't really done before.

Maybe you're not someone who volunteers - sign up for something.

Maybe you've never sat down to compose a handwritten letter to someone - write one.

Maybe you don't say "I love you" often enough - say it and experience how it feels.

Maybe you rarely give of your time - offer a gift of service to someone.

After you complete the challenge, send a quick reply to this email and let me know what you did, if it's something you're comfortable sharing. I'd love to hear from you, say hello, and maybe turn a few of your activities into images like this, just for fun . . .

9 years ago I was talking to the SpaceX Comms team about potentially joining their department. My son was 14 years old and just starting to get interested in space tech, so I asked if I could bring him along. They said yes, and we took a picture in front of HQ in Hawthorne before going inside. Between that moment and today, Josh joined our family group chat with the folks who work in the field, he went with me to the launch of the Mars InSight lander (my cousin worked on it), he started...

I'm restless tonight. Restless and unfocused, but creative. Not a great combination. My output would be muddled. But I can put these feelings to work a different way. Here's what I'll do: I'll create a list of interesting personal questions at the bottom of this email I will choose 5 to answer here for myself You choose up to 5 of your own, and reply back to me with your answers for yourself This is a way for all of us to have a low-stakes connection opportunity. If I get enough interesting...

I may regret this . . . it remains to be seen, haha 😬 But I think we can afford to give away our full $1,000/month YouBots platform to nonprofits for free, based on the money coming in from regular paying customers. For more details on where we are as a business, check out the LinkedIn post I just put up: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7322712667536642051/ If you or someone you know works for or with a nonprofit, they'll want to see this. It's probably easiest just to...
